To Stay Healthy: 10 Foods To Avoid
Dear Reader,
We all have our favorite treats that tempt us out of our healthy eating plans, but here are some foods that seriously need to be dropped from your diet, especially if you're trying to lose weight in anticipation of swimsuit season.
1. White flour has absolutely no nutrients and also spikes blood sugar. Go with whole grains instead. Toasted, with peanut butter and a drizzle of honey a piece of whole wheat bread is a great way to start the day.
2. Yogurt that has fruit on the bottom
is a delicious, filling snack but these foods can also have as much sugar as a candy bar. Go for unsweetened Greek yogurt, as it is creamier and naturally higher in protein, then add some fresh fruit or a bit of honey for a touch of sweetness.
3. Dried fruit may seem like a healthy, good-for-you snack, but dried fruits can cause more trouble than you think. Some contain added sweeteners and preservatives, plus dried fruit doesn't have the healthy enzymes that are a natural part of fresh
fruit. Why not cut up your favorite fresh fruit into smaller pieces and take it along?
4. Diet soda seems like a good option since regular soda can have almost 200 calories, and diet has zero. If you're looking to lose weight, your best bet is to cut the soda out altogether based on a 2005 study that found those who drank diet soda were more likely to be overweight. Also, the sugar substitute in diet drinks can put you at risk of type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease. Try zero
calorie, natural water instead and add fresh fruit slices or mint for a dash of flavor.
5. Caffeine can impact your sleep, and for that reason experts suggest you cut out caffeine completely. Replace caffeine with herbal teas and water, plus you'll be cutting the calories for cream, flavored syrup and whole milk that come with your coffee. If you can't give up that morning cup, have it but use skim milk and no (or little) sugar.

6. Pretzels are thought to be a healthier snack than say chips or crackers, but they aren't because of the salt that food makers add to help the taste. Plus they are made from white flour. Try air pooped popcorn or homemade kale chips, without butter-laden toppings, instead.
7. Processed meats like bologna, sausage deli meat and bacon are loaded with saturated fats and fillers. Go with cuts from the farmer's market or anything that's right from the source, not packaged. Fresh lean meats
like chicken, turkey and fish and grass fed beef are ideal choices.
8. Barbecue sauce is a hidden carrier of sugar, far more than you think, and we all use way more than we should. Try serving lean meats with herbs and spices instead; and if you must have the barbecue sauce, keep it as light as possible.
9. Dairy can be trouble, especially for people who have been identified (not self-diagnosed) with an allergy or intolerance to dairy. There are other natural sources of the same
nutrients such as unsweetened coconut or almond milk you can try in place of regular dairy.
10. Cocktails are tasty but they also have lots of sugary artificial mixers, plenty of salts and usually come along with some greasy bar snacks. Keep your intake of a glass of wine to 5 ounces, or one drink a day for women, two for men. If you can't stop at this, try eliminating alcohol altogether.
To your good health,
